DawnClan History, Part 3: Scattered Remains

We traveled the play yard for days. KittyClan had lost its purpose as well as its members. Even Caleb drifted away, back into the usual activities for a 4th grader. Jordan, Katt, and I found a soft cluster of grass and set up camp, hoping to restart KittyClan someday. Weeks past. Loudfur would come and teases us, jeering at our defeat now. We still patrolled our small borders, but only Blackfang’s heart was in it. Eventually, she became so over-protective that the teachers banned KittyClan. They had never approved, but now it was official. We still met, though we didn’t bring the apprentices. KittyClan was reduced to lying in our dens, enjoying the summer sun and talking about Warriors and past battles between KittyClan and DogClan.
After about a week, Caleb came back and we named him officially. He was now Blackdog, after the stuffed dog he used to bring. Technically, he was a dog, but we allowed him anyway. We discussed our plans for the next year. Since we had decided that middle school and up was “StarClan” Katt and I would be “dead.” On the last day of school, I preformed the ceremony that named Blackfang as leader. On the first day of school in the next year, she would go to the Moonpuddle, a ditch that was our Moonstone/pool. Then she would be Blackstar, leader of KittyClan. Blackdog was named deputy.
Blackfang never fulfilled her role. We decided that Katt and I would remain alive, and so we have carried on the tradition of finding warriors to train. We found Shima, a “rouge” who wanted to be a warrior. She was named Whitescar. I took on an apprentice, Abby, who’s official name is Greenpaw, but goes by Greenflower already, though she hasn’t finished her training (completing the Warriors Reading Challenge). We also changed our name to DawnClan, in keeping of the tradition that a clan be named after the first leader. We are still carrying the tradition of training warriors, and we need YOUR help!

P.S. March 16th is P.R. Warriors Day, in honor of DawnClan's beginning.

DawnClan's History, Part 2: Falling Apart

It became increasingly harder to defend our clan. Many cats dropped out, no longer interested. The remaining few refused to listen to me or Blackfang. Many “authority only” meetings were held, meaning only the medicine cat, deputy, and leader. The apprentices no longer came out of my sight. KittyClan struggled on.
Meanwhile, Breezestar was having trouble of her own. Blackfang rushed over to me one day, with the news that Breezestar wanted to talk to me. I left Shellpool watching the apprentices and Blackfang and I told Breezestar to “swim” over to us. She told us the trouble she was having with her clan. Her clan had grown from three to many, as most of the KittyClan dropouts had joined her clan, because DogClan had no code. She could hardly keep her clan from attacking us. We thanked her, and sent her back to her clan. We knew she must be desperate if she was sharing us this weakness. We did not tell our clan, because it would bring war if we did, and we knew we were in no shape for a battle.
One day, word got out. Betty had heard from Loudfur that DogClan was no longer under Breezestar’s control. We had seen this from across the river, but we had no idea how bad it was. Darkice had started a rebellion. Now he was leading the rest of the clan into battle against us. Breezestar had resigned. This meant war.
I called a meeting. All of the members except Shellpool, Caleb, and I wanted to fight. Some of the warriors had run off into battle already. Things looked bad for KittyClan. Blackfang eventually listened to reason, and agreed not to fight, but everyone else still wanted to. There was one thing left to be done. “Anyone who wishes to remain in KittyClan will stay here. Anyone who wishes to leave, may fight.” I told them. There was a brief pause. Blackfang and Shellpool looked at me in shock. Caleb nodded slowly. Then, the worst possible thing happened. Every cat but the three who agreed with me left. KittyClan look like it was finished.

DawnClan's History, Part 1: Easy Beginnings

This is the true account of the great clan of DawnClan. DawnClan was formed by Katt, April and Jordan on March 16th, 2007. Later, Abby and Shima joined. Since then, all but Abby has joined “StarClan” (Middle school and up). Also, loner Caleb and the clan of DogClan have played roles in DawnClan’s history.

It started on a perfectly normal March day. After a long and boring day in 5th grade, Katt and April went out to recess to catch butterflies as usual. After many tries with no avail, April spotted Jordan standing with a few other 4th graders. Motioning for Katt to follow her, she raced over to her friend. “Hey,” she called to Jordan. Jordan looked up from the small crowd. “What’re you doing?” “Chasing butterflies,” Katt replied, catching up. “Caught any yet?” Jordan asked. “Not yet,” added April. “Want to help?” “Sure,” answered Jordan. “I’ve got nothing better to do.”
So, after 40 minutes of scaring butterflies, the three agreed to meet again tomorrow. As the teachers called for them to come in, they formed a plan. They would be warriors, hunting their prey. Soon, they would be DawnClan.

The next day, I brought to school every feline Beanie Babie® I possessed. Joe, who sat by me in class, named the Siamese “Kung Fu Kitty”. At recess, everyone wanted a cat to play with. This was our strategy, because it meant people would join KittyClan, as we called it. When we had a group of about 12, I told everyone to stay in the area and listen up. Everyone sat down, and I stood up so I could be heard over the talking in our small crowd of listeners. “OK people, listen up! Who here has read the Warriors series by Erin Hunter?” Katt and Jordan raised their hands. Betty, a friend of Jordan’s, called from the back, “What’s Warriors?” “Warriors is a series about feral cats, cats living in the wild,” I explained. “They fight for survival, and the cats that fight are called warriors. They live in clans. If you join our clan, KittyClan, today, you will be warriors!” I finished. Candice raised her hand. “Do we get to keep the cats?” She held up a small black-and-white cat. “You can keep them while we’re playing,” I said. She nodded. “OK, now the warrior code. Everybody listen, this is important!” I yelled.
The next day, KittyClan met again. Everyone had picked names and been given one of the stuffed cats as an apprentice. Katt, Jordan, and I had explained I was the leader, Katt was the medicine cat, and Jordan was deputy. Since we were the only ones who knew anything about the series, no one argued.
Things went well for a while. Slowly, the members began to listen and understand the warrior code and books. Many began to read the series. We thought we had started a Warriors revolution. Betty, Caleb, and Candice became our senior warriors because of their dedication to the clan. Of course, we had to count the cats every day when we got them back, and it was hard to keep the clan in one place for a meeting, but we managed. “Cats” would have a clan meeting for the first 5 minutes of recess, and then hunt, patrol, and do other “warrior’s things” for the rest of the recess, unless there was another meeting.
Then the trouble began. A group of three had heard about our clan. They had formed a clan of their own, DogClan. One of them, a true warrior, had read the series. Her name was Peyton, and she became Breezestar. She was fierce, cunning, and she knew how to control her clan. Of course, there were only three of them; her, her deputy, Darkice, and a warrior, Brownclaw. But compared to them, we were completely unorganized.
Their main target was the Beanies®. We stepped up our patrols, and even moved camp a few times. Their deputy, Darkice, was very fast, and Breezestar and Brownclaw could herd us in while Darkice stole kits. We always got the kits back, but it was a close call sometimes. Once, Darkice got a hold of my apprentice, Bramblepaw. I tore after him, nearly tripping over my feet. I was not worried about the clan, because Jordan, now Blackfang, was the fiercest protector of the clan, and she was deputy. I sprang at Darkice, and pinned him to the ground. It was a fierce battle, but I got a hold of Bramblepaw. Katt, who was Shellpool, broke off from the clan’s battle and took Bramblepaw back to the camp. I turned to find Darkice, but he was retreating with the rest of his clan. We stood across the “river”, which was really the sidewalk, yelling and jeering at their defeat. All the apprentices were safe, but Bramblepaw had serious wounds, which Shellpool tended to.
